Reiki and Energy Healing

Posted August 20, 2011

We hear a lot today about energy healing, self-healing, Reiki and similar healing techniques.  But what are we talking about?  Is it safe.

The idea behind energy healing is for the practitioner to channel energy through the client to break up energy blockages or to boost energy in areas where the client's own energy is weak. Some types of emergy healing have a religious basis, such as the laying on of hands.  Others, such as Reiki and Pranic Healing do not.

Reiki was begun in 1922 by  Mikao Usui after a period of fasting and meditation.  He believed that he received the knowledge of Reiki through revelation and  also the knowledge to pass on this ability to others through an attunement process.

A Reiki session lasts from 30 minutes to an hour.  The client lies down comfortably while the practitioner places his hands over the major chakras for three to five minutes each.  Using the Reiki symbols as keys to unlock the particular frequencies of energy,  he let's  the energy flow through the body.   Some people say they can feel a warmth or tingling feeling during the session, others just feel very relaxed.

Pranic healing is similar, except practitioners use colors of energy to heal instead of the symbols of Reiki.  The basic idea is the same, in that the practitioner uses energy to car blocks and restore a good flow of energy to the body.

Reiki cannot cause harm to the client.  It uses a gentle, universal energy for healing.  and in the same way, a practitioner cannot give too much energy to the client.  The body will only accept what it needs.

Other modalities differ in practice, but they all have the same basic aproach.  Some combine energy with massage or use it in conjunction with other practices, including chiropractic and even medical treatments.

But do  they really work?  That is the queston.  Those who regularly have energy healing appointments obviously believe  they do.  Others try it once or twice and don't really feel they received any benefit from it.  In the scientific community, some feel that the healing from any type of energy modality is a result of the placebo effect.

Is it worth the time and expense?   If you have chronic issues which haven't been  relieved by other means why not give it a try?    It is completely safe and quite relaxing.  Whether those finding relief  are experiencing the placebo effect or not, if it works why argue over why?

Or if you're just curious or have a lot of stress in your ife and want to try something new, go for it.  At least you'll get an hour away from all those worries and cares.  There are plenty of sites on the internet which can direct you to practitioners in your area.

So if you want to relieve par tof that stress you're carrying around, or have a few compaints you'd like to address, give enrgy healing a try.  Of course, if you have serious health problems, you should never stop treatments without talking with your doctor.  Reiki and energy healing make a wonderful addition to traditional medical care, but should not be used to replace it.
